The most popular holiday resorts on the west coast
Esmark rents out holiday homes in Denmark’s most popular resorts along the west coast, all easily accessible by car. Our areas start in the south of Denmark from Blavand and stretch along the North Sea coast across Henne Strand up, along the Holmsland Klit with Bjerregård, Hvide Sande and Søndervig, as far north as our summer house area Vester Husby.
And where is Holmsland Klit? Holmsland Klit (= dune) is a narrow natural stretch of land, approx. 40 kilometres long and beautifully situated between the North Sea and Ringkøbing Fjord. It’s just over a two hours' drive from the German-Danish border. Holmsland Klit is home to some of Denmark's most popular holiday resorts and excursion destinations. These include Hvide Sande with an authentic and charming harbour atmosphere and Søndervig, one of Denmark's oldest seaside resorts.
Holmsland Klit is also home to our holiday resort Bjerregård and one of our 6 service offices, it was here that Esmark Holiday Home Rentals, originally Esmarch Feriehusudlejning, was founded in 1965 by Mathilda Esmarch was founded.
What ID do I need to enter Denmark?
All travellers (including children) must be in possession of their own valid identity/travel document. Random border checks have been carried out again at the German-Danish border since 2016.
To enter and stay in Denmark for up to 90 days, German citizens need the following documents: Valid identity card, temporary identity card, valid passport, travel document as passport substitute (if the expired passport or identity card is carried). Children require a valid Children's passport.

Shopping facilities
There are many Shopping facilities in the region; In addition to local shops and supermarkets, you will also find branches of ALDI and Lidl. You can buy fresh fish every day in the many local fishmongers in Hvide Sande, Blåvand or in the harbour towns of Esbjerg and Thorsminde.
Credit and EC cards
Most international cheque and credit cards, such as VISA, MasterCard, EuroCard and American Express, can be used in Denmark, both in shops and ATMs.
Please note that a simple German EC card that is not combined with an international credit card cannot always be used in Denmark. However, you can always use your EC card at Esmark.
Traffic rules and speed limits
The Maximum speed on motorways in Denmark is up to 130 km/h, depending on the signposting, it can also be lower. In the vicinity of large cities, the speed limit is normally 110 km/h. The use of motorways in Denmark is free of charge, with the exception of a few large bridges such as the bridge over the Great Belt.
On the Country roads up to 80 km/h (sometimes up to 90 km/h, depending on the signposting)
In villages and Up to 50 km/h are permitted within cities; pay attention to the signposting.
In Denmark, you must always drive with your lights on. Please also bear in mind that a parking disc is required in almost all public and private car parks. If you forget it even briefly, you risk High penalties.
What language is spoken in Denmark?
Danish is spoken in Denmark. Most Danes understand and speak English very well and in the tourist areas on the west coast many Danes also speak very good German. We all speak German in our Esmark service offices.
Can you drink the tap water?
Yes, tap water in Denmark is not only clean, it's excellent! All Danish households drink tap water. A glass of water from the tap is usually even cleaner than the mineral water bought in the shop. Our tap water on the west coast is no exception.
It is a fact that our tap water is among the cleanest water in Denmark; it is filtered groundwater where the original rainwater has slowly seeped through different layers of the earth. It contains no chlorine and is rich in valuable natural minerals. You can therefore enjoy the clean water straight from the tap with confidence and a clear conscience.
Please do not let it run unnecessarily, because the supply of clean drinking water is not inexhaustible.
Can I pay in euros in Denmark?
The currency in Denmark is the Danish krone (DKK). The exchange rate to the euro is approximately: 1 EUR = 7.45 DKK. In many shops in the holiday resorts along the coast, you can now also pay in euros, often at the same exchange rate, and then receive your change in Danish kroner.
Where can you exchange money?
As an Esmark guest, you can exchange up to €500 for Danish kroner. We offer a fixed exchange rate of 1 EUR = 7.20 DKK – with no fees and no minimum amount.
Sick on holiday, can I go to the doctor?
Even on holiday, it’s possible to fall ill or need medical assistance. Denmark’s healthcare system is very well organised, and many doctors’ practices also welcome tourists.
Can you take your pet with you to Denmark?
Yes, Denmark and especially the west coast of Jutland offer ideal holiday destinations for families with dogs; these and other small pets are welcome in most holiday homes.
A holiday with your dog is fun for the whole family. Enjoy the great outdoors and endless beaches right on your doorstep. In the winter months, dogs can even run freely on the beach without a leash, as long as their owners keep them under control.

A holiday destination on the west coast offers you many attractions and sights within a short or longer distance. Here we have a small selection of popular attractions for you:
The water ski centre Hvide Sande Denmark's first cable-operated waterskiing facility (cable park) is beautifully situated directly on the Ringkøbing Fjord at the Aqua Sports Zone in Hvide Sande. For children and adults of all ages, including those who just want to watch and enjoy a cup of coffee in the café in the front row. The cable park is open from 1 May to the end of September.
The old town centre of Ringkøbing As an old trading town with good shopping facilities and fresh air Ringkøbing is always worth a visit. You can stroll through the cobbled streets and enjoy the atmosphere in the town, visit one of the local artists and take a stroll to the harbour. Distance from Hvide Sande: 22 km.
The Viking harbour in Bork Go back in time 1000 years and experience the atmosphere in the Viking harbour Bork, how the Vikings lived on the fjord back then. A living museum is offered during the summer season.
LEGOLAND This Danish classic is one of the country's biggest attractions. Here you can go on a journey of discovery among 50 amusements in a unique universe built around the world-famous LEGO bricks. Esmark offers all guests tickets to LEGOLAND at a discount. You can buy the discounted tickets directly online. LEGOLAND is open from mid-March to the end of October.

Sockets - Do I need a travel adapter in Denmark?
There are various power sockets in Denmark, but almost all models have one thing in common: they can be switched on and off directly with a switch. Our guests from Germany do not need a travel plug adapter for the Danish sockets. The mains voltage is 230V at a frequency of 50 Hz.
You can use your electrical appliances from Germany here without any problems. In addition, many holiday homes are now equipped with charging stations for electric cars.
