A new, tarmac cycle and footpath runs along the main road, which is particularly suitable for walking tours and cycling excursions for the more demanding cyclists. The cycle path leads all the way to Hvide Sande or north to Sondervig. Between the main path and the dunes there is also a beautiful nature trail with a somewhat rougher surface, which offers the best opportunities for sports, especially hiking and jogging tours, but also for cycling tours in the extraordinarily beautiful nature, where the interesting animal and bird life can be observed.

Lyngvig Havn - a true jewel

No.-Lyngvig

On the fjord side you will find Lyngvig's small, cosy harbour, which is always worth a visit. This is a real gem in the middle of the West Jutland countryside and a small historic fishing harbour that is still used authentically today.

In the past, fjord fishing together with farming on the many small farms formed the livelihood of many local families, which can still be found along the dunes in the area.

Today, there are only a few fishermen in Lyngvig Havn who fish as their main occupation. When you visit the harbour, it often doesn't take very long before you are involved in a conversation with the local residents, who are always keen to have a little chat - perhaps not always in perfect foreign language, but with the help of signs and simple international words, a conversation can always be held and perhaps a deal struck for some fresh fish for dinner.

Lyngvig lighthouse - the beautiful landmark of the area

The dominant landmark of Nr. Lyngvig is the Lyngvig Fyr lighthouse, which can be seen from the entire northern area of Ringkobing Fjord. The lighthouse is the highest lighthouse in Denmark with a total height (including the dune on which the lighthouse was built) of 53 metres above sea level. To reach the top of the lighthouse, you first have to climb 79 steps on the dune plus 149 inside the lighthouse, totalling 228 steps. That's quite an effort, but the reward for the climb is fantastic. From the top of the lighthouse, you have a wonderful view over the Holmsland Klit, the fjord, the sea and the almost 300 hectares of protected heathland surrounding the lighthouse. You can now get a taste of the marvellous view from the new Webcam in Denmark, which is mounted directly in the dome of the lighthouse. The camera broadcasts live around the clock and offers a fantastic panorama of the North Sea and dunes on a clear day.

Lyngvig Fyr was built in 1906 as a result of a tragic shipwreck in 1903, when 24 sailors lost their lives. The cone of light can still be seen 40 kilometres out at sea and is still used today as a navigation point by fishing and merchant fleets.

In connection with Lyngvig Fyr there is a small natural history museum where the rich animal and bird life and the history of the area are described in an interesting way.
