The historic Ese houses by the fjord

At the southern end of the Ringkøbing fjord, just before Nymindegab, there is a small jetty and some historic "Esehytter". The "Esehytter" in Nymindegab are traditional thatched huts that were used by fishermen in the 19th century.

They were used to store fishing gear and as accommodation for the "Esepiger" - young women who loaded fishing hooks with maggots. Today, the reconstructed Esepiger huts are a popular tourist destination and offer insights into the history of fishing in Nymindegab. The huts were robustly built, simply furnished and offered only very spartan comfort.
