Kallesmaersk Hede

Close to Blåvand and Vejers is the Kallesmaersk Hede. This nature reserve is around 11,000 hectares in size and is home to many plants, birds and other animal species, including large red deer populations. You can marvel at them in the varied dune and heathland vegetation.

Some areas of Kallesmærsk Hede are temporarily closed when Danish and international military forces carry out their exercises there. The exercises can often be heard in the surrounding area; the military publishes information about closures and firing times on the Internet.

The "Open Heath Day" (Åben Hede) attracts many visitors. The Danish military organises this once a year and uses the occasion to exhibit current and historic military vehicles and demonstrate combat exercises.
