Swimming in the Big Tropical Aquadome

Water, water and more water, everywhere you look. In the gigantic Aquadome you can happily spend an entire day on indoor water activities without ever repeating yourself.

The dome is kept tropical all year round. The water sits at a constant 28 °C and the air at 30 °C, which is exactly why this place works so well in February and November, when the North Sea outside is doing something considerably less inviting. The hall holds up to 1,600 guests at a time and is watched over by trained lifeguards throughout.

Water fun and experiences in their purest form are waiting for everyone, big and small. The smallest water lovers can play in the baby and toddler pools, while the older ones fight their way to the front of the big wave pool where the waves are at their wildest. The water depth in the wave pool runs from 0 to 160 cm, so even the little ones can feel the waves rolling in at the shallow edge without leaving safe ground.

Ride the Wave on WaveSurf

The waves of the North Sea are a magnet for surfers. In the Aquadome you can try the same sport indoors on the WaveSurf. You can surf it in several ways and decide for yourself whether you want to balance standing, lying or sitting on the board. Surf instructors are on hand to give you tips, so it works for absolute beginners and confident riders alike. See whether you can pull off a couple of cool tricks on the board.

Feel the Rush in Your Stomach

Take the stairs to the top of the Aquadome and four water slides open up in front of you, and if you cannot decide between them you simply climb back up and take another. There are 14 slides in the dome in total, several of which loop out through the wall of the building and back in again, which is a genuinely odd feeling in the middle of a Danish winter.

On the Tornado slide, high speed and a lot of water are guaranteed as you drop down the steep tube. If fast is your thing, challenge the family to a race down the parallel tubes of Beach Racers and settle the argument once and for all.

If you have climbed the Tornado Tower on your own, grab a ring and take the Single Tube down. Hold on tight, because it moves. And if you have talked your dad or your big brother up the tower with you, the Double Tube takes you both down together, with plenty of momentum and a very satisfying wall of water when you land in the pool. You will also find the Lighthouse Slide in the Tornado Tower, full of twists and turns from top to bottom.

Play on the Big Aqua Splash Water Playground

If you are not already in your swimsuit, you will want to be the moment you catch sight of the enormous Aqua Splash water playground. It delivers hours of play and proper challenges for the whole family. If you like surprises, water, games and speed, there is something here for you. Things move fast on this playground and there are five slides to work through. When the giant 1,200 litre bucket tips over your head, you are going to be completely soaked. There are water cannons and fountains for spraying everybody else, and do not forget the smaller buckets that can tip over anywhere at any moment.

Plenty of Fun for the Little Ones

The smallest guests can splash in the Aquadome's baby and toddler pools, which come with sponges and small slides and are perfect for the youngest water fans. Older children get their own junior pool with four wide, very fun slides that land you in 60 cm of water, kept just as tropically warm as the toddler area.

Relax and Enjoy Life

It is not all about being in the water. There is plenty of room to slow down, for instance in the wonderful panoramic sauna that looks out over the whole Aquadome, so you can still keep an eye on the children splashing below while you sit in the heat. If you want to switch off properly, stretch out on one of the many comfortable loungers in the spa area. In the indoor and outdoor hot pools with massage jets you can let the powerful water do the work. On selected days Lalandia also runs saunagus, the Scandinavian ritual where a sauna master works the heat around the room with a towel and infused steam. Ask at the desk for the current schedule.

Getting Hungry?

After that many hours of splashing about, hunger arrives fast. You can eat a proper lunch in one of several restaurants right in the Aquadome. In the Surfclub Food Court you choose between green, Italian, American and Danish dishes, which can honestly be a harder decision than picking a slide. Take the stairs up from the food court and you reach the Surfclub Terrace, where you can enjoy your favourite dish with a view over the entire Aquadome. Elsewhere in the centre you will also find Bones, the Danish steakhouse and rib chain that is a firm family favourite here.

Let the children roam freely in Monky Tonky Land.

On the 800 m² Monky Tonky Land playground, children can keep going for hours. The playground is designed for children from 0 to 12 years old. They can play in the ball courts, race down the slides, climb the play tower, bounce three metres into the air on the trampolines and build with the big Mega Bricks. There is a separate toddler area with small slides and play equipment for the youngest ones too.

If your children take to the theme, there is now also a MONKY TONKY FACTORY shop in the centre of Søndervig village, where they can build their own teddy bear.

Good to Know Before You Go

A few practical points that will save you a wasted trip:

• Day guests are not always admitted. On some days, typically at weekends and in the busiest holiday weeks, the Aquadome closes to day guests entirely and admits only people staying in a Lalandia holiday home. Always check the current opening calendar before you drive over, and book your ticket online in advance where possible.

• Your ticket is valid for one entry only. If you leave the Aquadome, you cannot walk back in later on the same ticket. Plan your day around that, and eat inside rather than heading out for lunch.

• Bring your own towels. These are not provided as standard for day visitors.

• Allow a full day. There is no time limit inside, so once you are in you can stay until closing. Most families with children between 4 and 12 use nearly all of it.

• Height limits apply on some slides. The bigger tube slides have minimum height requirements, so if you have a child hovering around the limit, check at the entrance before they queue for twenty minutes.

Søndervig or Billund, Which Lalandia Should You Choose?

Denmark has three Lalandia resorts, at Rødby, Billund and Søndervig, and two of them are within reach of a west coast holiday home.

Lalandia Billund has the bigger Aquadome at 10,000 m², the largest water park in Scandinavia, plus WinterWorld and a large adventure park. It sits right next to LEGOLAND, so it makes sense as part of a LEGO trip.

Lalandia Søndervig is the newest, opened in 2022, and covers around 15,000 m² of activity centre with 483 holiday homes attached. Its real advantage is location. You are a few minutes from the North Sea beach at Søndervig and within a short drive of thousands of holiday homes along Holmsland Klit.
