Due to its fantastic location, Nissum Fjord attracts many resting birds in spring and autumn on their journey to and from the breeding grounds in southern and western Europe. However, Nissum Fjord not only serves as a welcome resting place, but also as a quiet area for breeding birds. That is why there are certain rules for visitor traffic on and around the fjord. Windsurfing is only permitted in Nissum Fjord at certain times and in designated areas.

Beautiful excursions and sights

What can you see and experience in a week in Denmark? Quite a lot! Here are some tips for a holiday home holiday with the whole family.

The Fjand Gårdbutik, Café & Galleri

The Fjand Gårdbutik, Café & Galleri is a café with seating for around 80 people, a cosy Hofladen and a gallery with changing exhibitions. The Hofladen sells freshly ground coffee, tea, various delicacies and chic leather bags, among other things. The café is housed in a restored stable and is a popular place to enjoy a cup of fresh coffee or a light lunch. On Sundays, Fjand Gårdbutik, Café & Galleri usually serves a delicious cake table with homemade Danish treats. Concerts and cultural events are also organised here in summer.

Explore the Husby Klitplantage

It's not far from the holiday homes in Fjand to Husby Klitplantage. Here the forest changes character with almost every step you take. One moment you are standing under noble fir trees. The next, you are looking up into the treetops of Denmark's most westerly grove.

Walk a little further west and you are suddenly on the very edge of the country - with your feet in the North Sea. The plantation offers opportunities for walks in the dune heath to swimming in the sea. And last but not least, the special West Jutland tranquillity. With a bit of luck, you can watch kingfishers or at least hear them chirping.

Fishing luck and museum in the fishing village Thorsminde

A holiday home in Nr Fjand is the ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding area. There is an exciting excursion option in the immediate vicinity of the local holiday homes: the small fishing village of Thorsminde. It is best to take the cycle path to Thorsminde. It is only about 10 minutes by car. In spring and autumn, you can watch the fascinating spectacle of freshly caught herring spawning in the fjord. You can also enjoy your own fishing activities in Thorsminde. You can fish from the pier.

The wind and weather conditions on Thorsminde Beach are usually so good that there are always plenty of windsurfers and kitesurfers here. Thorsminde itself is also home to the St. Georg Beach Museum, where you can gain an insight into life on the British warships of St. Georg. There is a small playground and a cosy café in front of the museum.

From Nr. Fjand to Søndervig

If you are spending your summer in Fjand, you should visit Søndervig and see the annual sand sculpture festival. Experience how more than 12,000 tonnes of West Jutland sand are transformed into a magical world - a very special experience, especially for the youngest members of the family. The sand sculptures are built by skilful sculptors, which means that there is guaranteed to be a great exhibition every year.

In the holiday resort Sondervig there is also a 27-hole golf course, shops and art shops as well as local restaurants. In sunny weather, you should definitely enjoy a delicious soft ice cream in the harbour. Good to know: Sondervig is only about half an hour away from the holiday home area.

Shopping and shopping in Fjand

For shopping, head to Sdr Fjand, where there is a small grocery shop and a bakery. There is also the Fjand Fiskepark & Røgeri fish market and the aforementioned Fjand Gårdbutik, Café & Galleri. Just 3 kilometres away is Sdr Nissum, where there is a Coop and a petrol station. For a little more choice of shops, it is worth travelling to Ulfborg. For shopping, head for the larger towns in the area: Holstebro and Ringkobing are both around 40 minutes away by car and have larger shopping streets for a leisurely stroll.
