A beach museum full of exciting stories
If the beach weather doesn't play ball, we recommend a visit to Thorsminde the St. George Beach Museum. The sometimes dramatic strandings on the west coast of Jutland are exhibited here. Currents, storms, clouds of fog, inaccurate navigation instruments - these are the causes of the sometimes dramatic strandings that the museum provides information about.

A highlight: the exhibits of the stranded English ships of the line HMS St. George and HMS Defence, whose last voyage in 1811 you can accompany in the museum. Prepare yourself for an exciting insight into the most dramatic and heroic stories of Danish seafaring.
The rooms of the Stranding Museum are partially illuminated with blue light effects, giving you the feeling that you are standing in the middle of the sea. There is a maritime children's playground in front of the museum. There is also a museum shop and a restaurant.

The harbour at Thorsminde is a lively fishing harbour with its own fish auction and excellent opportunities for anglers. In Thorsminde harbour there is a lock that separates Nissum Fjord from the North Sea. In the harbour entrance, you can see the fishing boats leaving and bringing in their fresh catch. Modern ships and the typical blue fishing boats are moored here. Cod, plaice, turbot and sole are particularly popular fish species, which are taken from the sea depending on the season.

Unique fish auctions at Gammel Havn
At Gammel Havn from Thorsminde, a fish auction is held every Saturday from July to mid-August. Here you can bid yourself and get your hands on delicious fish. In addition to crabs and plaice, cod and pike also go under the hammer. With a bit of luck, you might even get a lobster. The atmosphere in the fish hall alone makes it worth a visit.

The big herring day for anglers
A "herring day" is organised in the harbour of Thorsminde in mid-April. During this time, the herring make their way into the Nissum Fjord. This is a really lucky day for anglers, as the chance of catching a herring increases many times over. The Herring fishing is almost a national sport in Denmark.
Participation is allowed, but get a fishing licence in advance or contact us for information about fishing licence, fishing equipment and fishing calendar. The spectacle surrounding Herring Day is also well worth seeing for visitors.
