The calm Ringkøbing fjord

Ringköbing Fjord is a shallow brackish water fjord that is protected by the long Holmsland Klit and connected to the North Sea. The fjord used to be populated by fishermen who plied their trade on the fjord's many fishing boats. Today there is no longer any commercial fishing on the fjord, but anglers and swimmers still enjoy the good conditions on and in the fjord.

With its 300 square kilometres, the fjord is a mecca for all kinds of water sports and offers the ideal environment for Windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddling.

Ringköbing Fjord and its immediate surroundings are home to diverse wildlife and birdlife, including some of Denmark's most important bird nesting sites. And you might be lucky enough to see some of the extraordinary birds and animals while enjoying the picturesque surroundings along the fjord shore.

The long dune: Holmsland Klit

The more than 40 kilometre long and very narrow dune strip, Holmsland Klit, separates the North Sea and the Ringköbing Fjord from each other. The rough sea on the west side and the calm fjord on the east side are striking contrasts and form the backdrop for a beautiful holiday on the Danish west coast. Magnificent dune landscapes as far as the eye can see, walks along kilometres of sandy beaches or a bicycle tour behind the dunes are a guarantee for relaxation and recreation.

On the North Sea side, Holmsland Klit offers perfect beaches with white sand and blue sea. However, we recommend that you visit the bathing areas where lifeguards are on duty so that you can safely jump into the waves. The pearls along the Holmsland Klit create an authentic and harmonious atmosphere.

Ringköbing is a charming trading town It dates back to the 15th century and is often referred to as the small capital of West Jutland. The city is the setting for unique stories. As you walk through the cobbled streets of the old town centre, you will find beautifully preserved buildings and townhouses from times long past.

The Ringkøbing Museum tells the whole story of Ringköbing through pictures and paintings. If you want to learn more about the history of the town, a visit to the museum is a worthwhile destination. On the "Torvet" you will find interesting shops and speciality shops on every street corner and there are plenty of opportunities to shop for clothes, household goods and delicious specialities. The city offers a variety of good restaurants as well as speciality food shops.
