Skovskaden in Sønderstrand

In Skovskaden you'll stay peacefully and close to nature in Sønderstrand in the south of the Wadden Sea island of Rømø. This small holiday-home road lies right in the middle of beautiful nature among dunes, pines and heath – open fields stretch out at the end of the road, and the Stormengene bird sanctuary is quickly reached too. The houses sit on generous natural plots, and it's only a few hundred metres to the beach.

The Sønderstrand is one of the widest sandy beaches in Europe – several kilometres across, depending on the tide. Here you can swim in the North Sea waves, take long walks or drive your car right down to the water. Above all, the firm, expansive sand is an eldorado for windsports: sand-sailing, kite-buggy, blokart and kite flying are especially good fun here, and guided rides along the water's edge are offered too.

Rømø is part of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site. By following the dike, you quickly reach the mudflats with their seals, migratory birds and the "Black Sun". The links course of the Rømø Golfklub is only a few minutes' walk away, and the nearby harbour town of Havneby offers a supermarket, restaurants, a bike rental and the ferry to Sylt.

The holiday homes in Skovskaden are cosily furnished in the typical Rømø style, many with a wood-burning stove, sauna or whirlpool – ideal for relaxing island days.
