Søndervig and its surroundings have something for everyone, including you, your children and your family. Here are some examples and tips for sights that bring plenty of variety into your holiday.
Unique art made of sand: the Søndervig Sandskulpturfestival
A whole world made of sand. At the Søndervig Sandskulpturfestival you experience impressive artworks created from nothing but sand and water. The detail and sheer size of these sculptures are simply fascinating and captivate children and adults alike. Every year, sculptors from all over the world build a new themed world right at the entrance to the village, and the sculptures then stand all season long, so you can visit from early summer well into the autumn.

The festival is also a wonderful opportunity to watch the sand artists at work. If you are in Søndervig during the summer, do not miss this spectacular sight.

Fiskeriets Hus in Hvide Sande: discover the history of fishing
If you are interested in the history of fishing in Denmark, then Fiskeriets Hus in Hvide Sande is a must for you. The small but charming museum gives you an insight into the lives of the fishermen on the west coast and shows how fishing has developed over time.
In lovingly designed exhibitions, and with aquariums showing the fish of the North Sea and the fjord, you learn all about the hard life of the fishermen, their boats and nets, and how fishing has shaped life in this region. If you are in Hvide Sande, definitely set aside time for a visit. The museum is not just educational but genuinely exciting for the whole family.

Hvide Sande Havn: a harbour almost like in the old days
While you are in Hvide Sande, a detour to Hvide Sande Havn is well worth it. Time has not stood still here either, but this is one of the few places where you can still watch the increasingly rare fishing cutters at work, especially in the old part of the harbour that locals call Tyskerhavnen.

Stroll along the quays and buy fresh fish at the Hvide Sande Røgeri, the harbour smokehouse, for dinner back at your holiday home. Fish straight from the boat, smoked on site: it does not get more West Jutland than that.

Lyngvig Fyr: a lighthouse with a breathtaking view
Another rewarding destination near Søndervig is Lyngvig Fyr, a historic lighthouse that not only tells you a lot about the history of this coast but also offers a stunning view over the entire area.

The lighthouse was built in 1906, after a tragic stranding off the coast in 1903 had cost 24 sailors their lives, and it has been a landmark of Holmsland Klit ever since. You can climb the roughly 38 metre tower and enjoy a magnificent view over the dunes, the North Sea and even Ringkøbing Fjord. In July and August the lighthouse also opens on Wednesday evenings, when the sunset over the sea is at its most beautiful. There is hardly a better place to experience the vastness of the Danish North Sea coast. And if you want a preview before you go, take a look at the Esmark webcam mounted at the very top of the lighthouse, which shows you the view live.
