Vesterende in Ballum

Vesterende is the village street of Vesterende Ballum, an old marsh village in southern Jutland. From many of the houses and plots you look out across the marsh meadows to the Wadden Sea – geese, wading birds and, in spring, vast flocks of migrating birds are part of everyday life here.

The architecture sets the tone: thatched marsh farmhouses from the 19th century, brick houses with glazing-bar windows, exposed beams and layouts that grew over time – carefully modernised without losing their character. Alongside small houses for couples there are also large farmsteads for family gatherings, some with a pool, sauna, whirlpool and activity room.

Worth knowing: what lies outside the door is the Wadden Sea, not a bathing beach. Depending on the house it's only a short distance to the dyke – ideal for walks, mudflat hikes and cycling along the coast. For a day on a wide sandy beach you drive about 15 minutes to Römö. Tönder and Ribe, Denmark's oldest town, are also close by.

The holiday homes on Vesterende are for anyone seeking space, quiet and genuine marshland atmosphere.
