The Danish west coast and especially the region around the Ringkøbing fjord are a true Eldorado for trout anglers. There are more put & take trout lakes here than in most other regions of Denmark.

There are many good put & take lakes in the area. You usually don't need to drive more than 10-15 kilometres before you can cast your lines into the water of the nearest put & take lake.

Here you can catch rainbow trout - good eating fish. Some lakes also release brown trout and other trout species.

Fishing at a put & take lake is particularly suitable for family fishing, where even small children can join in and catch their first fish. The facilities are open all day and fresh fish are regularly released, which are almost always in a biting mood.

How do you fish at a put & take lake?

Fishing on put & take systems is one of the most popular types of fishing and has developed enormously in recent years. There are many different methods and techniques for trout fishing. We present some of the most common ones here.

Passive fishing with float

The simplest and often very effective method is fishing with a float. Even the youngest children can join in and it is always exciting to watch the float. Especially when it suddenly starts to move. Then it is important to strike it in time so that the fish is safely hooked.

All you need is a rod and a fixed spool reel with 0.18 to 0.25 mm line. In addition, a float with a load capacity of 2 to 10 grams, some lead, preferably clamping lead, to balance the float and a fishing hook. The size of the hook must be matched to the type of fishing and the bait. If you are not sure about your choice of equipment, it is advisable to ask at your local fishing shop.

Natural bait such as earthworms, dewworms, bee maggots, maggots, mealworms or artificial bait such as trout dough (e.g. PowerBait) can be used as bait. Please observe the rules of the lakes when choosing your bait, as not all baits are permitted on all lakes.

Active float fishing

An often even more effective method is active fishing, in which the bait is kept in motion by slow retrieving. The greatest range is achieved with a water ball or a so-called bombard, where the casting weight is part of the float. You can use the same lures as for passive fishing.

When actively fishing, you should watch the surface of the water and pay attention to movements on the surface and cast the float so that the bait is close to the fish. The distance between the float and the bait should be as large as possible. Leader lengths of up to 3 metres are common.

Passive bottom fishing

If there is no activity on the surface, you can try fishing in deeper water layers or even offer the bait at the bottom. Especially on warm days, the fish move down into cooler water.

Depending on the depth of the water, you can use the same rig as for normal float fishing. In deeper waters, you can also dispense with the float altogether and fish with a bottom rig directly above the bottom.

Active fishing with artificial lures

If you want to keep moving all the time when fishing, you can also fish actively with spinners, small spoons, wobblers or rubber lures. The spinning speed must be adapted to the lure so that it moves optimally in the water. A spinning stop from time to time can significantly improve the chances of catching fish.

Light spinning rods with a maximum length of 2.4 metres together with a light spinning reel with a nylon line with a diameter of approx. 0.20 mm or a braided line with a diameter of up to 0.10 mm are suitable for spinning fishing.

The fish often move in large circles through the water, often returning to the starting point. Try to track them down! Then you will always be a small step ahead.

Fly fishing

After all, you can catch fish with flies. Many of the put & take lakes offer very good opportunities for fly fishing. It is important that there is enough space for the backswing. Put & take lakes are definitely a good starting point for trying out fly fishing. And with a bit of luck, you can even have success on your first day of fishing with a fly rod.

Both floating and sinking lines can be used on trout lakes. For most waters, a fly rod with a length of 9 feet and a line class of 6 - 7 is best suited.

Put and Take: Questions and answers

A Danish fishing licence is a prerequisite for fishing in Denmark. However, there are also exceptions: You do not need a fishing licence to fish in put & take lakes. People under the age of 18 and over 65 do not need a fishing licence in Denmark and can go fishing to their heart's content. They should only carry their identity card with them at all times. Anyone fishing in Danish inland waters needs a permit in addition to a fishing licence. Fishing licences can be purchased online or locally in fishing shops, tourist information offices and kiosks.

Fishing in Denmark is not expensive at all. The cost of a fishing licence depends on the duration for which it is issued. A day licence costs DKK 40, a weekly licence DKK 130 and an annual licence DKK 185. People under the age of 18 and over 65 do not need a fishing licence. If you want to fish in the local put & take lakes, you can get started straight away as you don't need a fishing licence either. There is only a small fee to be paid in cash to the lake operator.

Denmark is a fishing paradise where there are not many rules. There are only two rules in put & take lakes: Either you pay for a certain fishing time (e.g. 2 hours) or you pay entry and your catch in kg. Before fishing in the sea, you should know the protection zones and keep a sufficient distance from them. The usual protection zones are the mouths of rivers, streams and floodplains. There are also closed seasons for most fish. You can obtain more information when purchasing a fishing licence.

Yes, you can fish wonderfully on the beach in Denmark. Especially between Vejers Strand and Hvide Sande you will find many perfect fishing spots. Here you can never really be sure which fish will be wriggling on the line. That's what makes fishing so exciting! On the beach (and also in harbour areas) you can basically catch almost all sea fish, for example mackerel, turbot, cod, Hornpike and flatfish. Fishing on the beach is particularly popular with flatfish anglers. They have their Hoch season here between April and October.

Der Forellensee ist idyllisch gelegen und Bäume an der Westseite bieten guten Windschutz.

Der See hat eine Wasserfläche von 4000 m² und eine Tiefe von 2 bis 2,5 Metern.

Der 15.000 m² große Put & Take Angelsee liegt zwischen dem Ferienhausgebiet Lodbjerg Hede und dem Golfplatz, ca. 2 Kilometer von Søndervig entfernt.

Rund um den See sind gibt es windgeschützte Tische und Bänke.

Es werden regelmässig Regenbogenforellen besetzt.

Oxriver Put & Take besteht aus 5 Seen und einem 1000 Meter langen künstlich angelegten Flusslauf.

Die Fische stammen aus eigener Fuschzucht. Es werden regelmässig Regenbogenforellen, Bachforellen, Saiblinge und auch Tigerforellen besetzt.

Zur Anlage gehört auch ein See am Stampevej Nr. 8.

Der Put & Take See Mejlbygård Lystfiskeri liegt an der Ortsumgehung um Ringkøbing.

Der 12.500 m² große Put & Take See liegt zwischen Wiesen und Feldern.

Es wird nicht oft Fisch besetzt, dafür ist das Angeln aber sehr günstig.

Der Ringkøbing Put & Take See liegt an der Umgehungsstraße um Ringkøbing.

Der Forellensee hat eine Wasserfläche von 10.000 m².

In der Saison werden bis zu drei Mal wöchentlich Fische eingesetzt.

Der Forellensee hat eine Wasserfläche von 7.000 m² und liegt cirka 2 Kilometer südlich von Søndervig.

Barriereartmes Angeln ist heri möglich. Das Gelände ist ebenerdig und es gibt eine Angelplattform.

Der Fiischbeesatz richtet sich nach dem Umsatz.

Der Klegod Put & Take See liegt zwischen Søndervig und Hvide Sande.

Die 2 Forellenseen haben eine Wasserfläche von 12.000 m².

In der Saison werden mehrmals wöchentlich Regenbogenforellen besetzt. Der Besatz richtet sich nach der Zahl der Angler.

Der Forellensee hat 2 Seen mit einer Wasserfläche von 11.000 m².

Die Größe der ausgesetzten Fische liegt zwischen ein und sechs kg, selten darüber. In der Saison wird mehrmals wöchentlich besetzt.

Stauning Havn Fiskesø
liegt direkt am Hafen von Stauning.

Der Forellensee hat eine Wasserfläche von 4.000 m². In der Mitte des Sees befindet sich eine kleine Insel.

Auf dem Gelände gibt es keine Sanitäreinrichtungen. Auf dem Gelände gibt es einen kleinen Grillplatz und 3 Shelter-Hütten.

Die Put & Take Anlage besteht aus zwei verbundenen Forellenseen. Die Seen eine Wasserfläche von 10.000 m² mit einer Tiefe bis 5 Meter.

Der kleine Forellenteich eignet sich perfekt für Kinder und Anfänger. Neben dem kleinen Teich ist ein kleiner Spielplatz.

Die zwei Put & Take Seen mit einer Fläche von 36.000 m² werden regelmäßig mit Regenbogenforellen besetzt.

Es gibt direkt am See keine Toiletten oder Reinigungsplätze für gefangene Fische.

Der 15.500m² große Forellensee Lilleflod Ørredfiskeri liegt direkt am Vesterhavsvej, ca. 1 Kilometer von Nørre Nebel.

Es werden regelmässig Regenbogenforellen besetzt. Es gibt keine Fangbegrenzung.

Der Westcoast Put & Take liegt zwischen Nymindegab und Nørre Nebel.

Der See wurde 2019 angelegt.

Es werden regelmässig Forellen besetzt.
