The highlight of Havneby: Römö harbour

The harbour of Havneby looks back on a long and traditional history. As early as 1857, the Danish harbour director set out in search of a berth in Jutland. Many years were to pass before it was finally realised. It was not until 1963 that the harbour was built. It has remained to this day and is the most important centre for fishing on Römö.

The two historic cannons that you can admire on the cannon hill are a momentum of time. They are located near the harbour and are always worth a second look, especially for connoisseurs.

Although Römö is a small island, it played an important role in the Thirty Years' War. One of the most famous naval battles of the war was fought from there. Denmark and Sweden fought each other between Sylt and Römö in the so-called Lister Tief. There are still exciting stories and anecdotes about the cannons today. It is smaller than the well-known Lakolk beach, but is also less developed for tourism. You can reach it directly by car and encounter all kinds of natural highlights. Also worth a detour into nature: the Helmodde nature reserve near the dyke. Many wading birds such as oystercatchers and bar-tailed godwits nest here - which is why the area is only open to visitors from November to March.
