Kolding

The town's oldest house, a colourful half-timbered house dating back to 1589, is also an important part of Kolding. Art lovers and fans of avant-garde architecture should not miss the Trapholt Museum, which is one of the most remarkable in Jutland and is also internationally recognised.

Tønder

Tønder is a small town not far from the German-Danish border. The centre of Tønder is dominated by historic buildings, narrow streets and cosy squares.

A cultural highlight is the Tønder Festival, which takes place every year in August and attracts international artists and visitors from all over the world. There are also many opportunities to enjoy nature in Tønder. The city is located in close proximity to the sea and is a good starting point for excursions to the nearby Island of Römö.

Danish castles and monasteries

Sønderborg Castle has stood at the entrance to Alssund for around 800 years and has been the scene of many events in the history of Denmark and the border region.

The museum's exhibitions focus on the national history of the last 200 years from the perspective of Southern Jutland. The princely apartments from the 16th century are just as worth seeing as the large Knights' Hall and Queen Dorothea's Chapel.

Schackenborg Castle, which was built in the 17th century, is a popular excursion destination in the small town of Møgeltønder near Tønder. It was once the residence of Prince Joachim of Denmark.

Today, the castle is home to a museum and organises unique events such as classical concerts. Not far away is the Løgumkloster monastery from the 13th century. The monastery is said to have taken more than 150 years to build. Due to its interesting mixture of Romanesque and Gothic elements, the building is one of the most beautiful monasteries in Denmark.

Legoland Billund
