Our beach at Hvide Sande is also a pearl in terms of sand. It has already been voted the absolute best beach in Denmark and the disabled-friendly access to the sand and water via the dunes makes this beach particularly popular. And despite the many visitors, there is always an undisturbed spot for everyone - regardless of the time of year.

With the construction of a new large pier in 2013, a stretch of beach was created between the piers where you can enjoy the view over the harbour entrance and the incoming boats while swimming. And if you need a break from sunbathing in between, it's worth taking a walk along the 700 metre-long pier.

Sand, salt water and fresh sea air are good for body and soul

Children love playing in the sand on the beach. Here they can build imaginative sand castles and collect beautiful stones. Visit the annual sand sculpture festival in Søndervig. You're sure to find plenty of inspiration here.

In June, you can experience the beautiful, long, bright summer nights that are so characteristic of Scandinavia. And the very special atmosphere of St Hans, the traditional Scandinavian midsummer celebration.

Here you can watch beautiful, large bonfires on the beaches and by the Ringkøbing fjord. The locals and holidaymakers gather around the fires and sing, make themselves comfortable and eat the food they have brought with them.

The most beautiful sunsets can only be found on the west coast

Sitting on a dune top and watching the sunset is an experience in a class of its own. Bring your picnic basket and a blanket and enjoy a glass of wine while the sun goes down. It doesn't get any more romantic than this!

Bathing rules and bathing safety

The North Sea is beautiful, but even if it looks calm on a warm summer's day, don't be fooled and try a few Important bathing rulesPlease note. There can be a strong undercurrent. To avoid swimming accidents, there are a few simple tips that we have collected for you.

Rescue yourself from a surf backwater

At many bathing beaches in Denmark, including the beach at Hvide Sande, Sondervig, Blavand, Henne Strand and also Vejers Strand, lifeguard towers are set up during the summer season. They are manned by the Danish foundation Trygfonden and are usually manned daily during the Danish summer school holidays.

When the red and yellow flag is hoisted on the tower, the lifeguards are on site. The swimming zone is marked on the beach with red and yellow flags. Swim only in this marked area "Swim between the flags“.

Attention: If you only see a red flag, swimming is too dangerous at the moment. Please do not go into the water. 

Seals and harbour seals on the beach

The North Sea and the beaches here on Denmark's west coast are home to many Seals. It is mainly harbour seals that you can observe here almost all year round. They are often pups, sometimes adult seals, resting on the beach for a short break or waiting for their mother while she hunts for food in the sea. Please keep your distance so that the animals are not disturbed.

Nudist beaches in Denmark

Nudism is not only popular in Germany. Nudism has also been widespread in Denmark since the 1970s. As a rule, you are allowed to swim or sunbathe naked on almost all beaches, but please be considerate of other guests.

However, if you are interested in a nudist beach to be among like-minded people, there are also signposted beach sections throughout Denmark. Look out for the signs "fribadestrand" or "nudiststrand“.

The Danish naturist beaches are popular destinations for naturists. However, individual stretches of beach, which are not necessarily the best known, are also suitable for newcomers who tend to focus more on privacy at the beginning.

We recommend that you do not lie in the middle of the main beaches as a naturist, as it can sometimes be embarrassing for other holidaymakers. Please also pay attention to the general rules and bear in mind that offensive behaviour is also prohibited in Denmark.

Nudism on the North Sea in West Jutland

Denmark is a large country and the journey to a nudist-only beach can take a little longer. In West Jutland, however, there is a stretch of beach in Houstrup that is mainly used by naturists. However, it is not only naturists who lie on the beach here, but also a mixture of families, couples and singles who are not necessarily unclothed (nudity is not compulsory).
