Many tourists call them horse bunkers, as the sculptures resemble a horse at first glance.

Surveys have shown that the beaches in Blavand are among Denmark's best bathing beaches, as evidenced by international quality marks such as the Blue Flag, which symbolises good bathing water and beach quality and which flew on Blavand's beaches until a few years ago. It has since been replaced by the "bathing point" flag, a similar classification that still allows dogs to come to the beach and swim in the sea all year round.
A favourite with families is the south beach in the Hvidbjerg Strand area, where the tides are even more pronounced and the shallow areas offer good conditions for children. On some weeks in the high season you will even find a lifeguard tower on Hvidbjerg Strand.
Nordstrand begins at Denmark's most westerly point, the Blavandshuk Fyr lighthouse, where the beach is even wider and seems endless.

Kallesmærsk Hede
Between the holiday resorts of Blavand and Vejers is the Kallesmærsk Hede, a nature reserve of around 11,000 hectares where many plants, birds and other animal species, including large Red deer populations, The dunes and heathland can be experienced in a varied dune and heathland vegetation.
For many years, part of the nature reserve has been used by Danish and international armed forces as a military training area. When this happens, areas of Kallesmærsk Hede are also temporarily closed and it is unfortunately unavoidable that the exercises in the area are audible. Information about closures and firing exercises is published by the Military online.
The "Open Heath Day" (Åben Hede), where the Danish military exhibits current and historic military vehicles and demonstrates combat exercises once a year, is very popular.
